How are you? It's been too long - like two years too long. It feels like just yesterday that I was in Highland Park, handing over the keys to the new owner of Namaste. I love our new mountain town home, but finding new friends and community has been slow going. I miss you all dearly and wanted to be in touch! I hope that by sharing my journey, you'll be inspired, encouraged, or somewhat entertained.

It feels like, in the past two years, I've been to my personal hell and back. I'm writing to humbly share with you my lemonade, clumsily declaring victory, rising from the Phoenician ashes. πŸ™Œ πŸ₯΄

As I handed the care of the yoga studio over, the floodgates opened to all I had kept at bay until further notice; growing into motherhood, depression, identity crisis, looming divorce, and committed sobriety. I stood at the end of the road with a lifetime's worth of cans to clean up. I surrendered, let my heart break, picked myself up, cleaned up my side of the street; delivered myself to EMDR therapy, opened my ear to coaching, took parenting lessons, found love for myself (a work in progress if you ask how that’s going), got my marriage back on track and I lived to tell the tale.

With no business and staff to look after, I had the headspace to see clearly how cliche my motherhood story was - I fell for the popular narrative that you can have it all: kids, a career, a marriage, friends, and your individuality. I found myself depleted, disappointed, and betrayed by that narrative. Now, with a 6 and a 4-year-old, I'm just starting to emerge from the in-between place I found myself in, unprepared for the tectonic shifts that motherhood brings.

I joined Kimberly Ann Johnson’s online Mother Circle (the Fourth Trimester author). It’s an educational course on the arc of becoming a mother as well as a support community. Reading and hearing other moms' stories brought me instant relief. Everything clicked. The strands of everything I had been doing - professionally as a yoga therapist and personally as a flawed human being - weaved together.
